Will BP’s oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico ever stop? According to some experts, the answer to that question is “no,” and based on what we’ve seen from BP, they don’t seem to be getting any closer to stopping it either. With deep sadness in the wake of the tragic Deepwater Horizon oil spill, I pieced together this video montage to bid farewell to the Gulf of Mexico as it was. Anadarko Says Well Operator BP Should Pay for Spill (Update2)
June 18 (Bloomberg) — Anadarko Petroleum Corp. , the Texas oil company that owns 25 percent of the damaged well pouring crude into the Gulf of Mexico, said BP Plc , the well’s operator, should pay the costs from the disaster because of the reckless and unsafe way it drilled at the site.

The well may be damaged at a lower point than is being shown on TV. Plugging the well may cause further leakage or rupture. BP has expressed concerns about this. This idea would avoid that risk because it would not cause back pressure in the riser. The oil would have to be pumped out and hauled off by tankers at a rate of 20 to 40 thousand barrels a day, and this would pose a big challenge, but it’s not impossible. It’s certainly better than the alternative, which is to let this destruction go on till the relief wells are done, which could be many months away.
