Scientists at the NOVA Southeastern University Oceanographic Center fear that the Gulf oil spill will reach South Florida waters and impact fisheries, wildlife, and the economy. A current loop which extends up through the Gulf and then back down around the tip of Florida and up the east coast may pick up the oil and damage sea grass, mangrove, and coral reef habitats that are home for many species.
