This weekend, I flew over areas of the Gulf of Mexico impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil leak disaster. In the video, the helicopter approaches the site of the leak. The small vessels visible in the beginning of the video are skimming oil from the water’s surface. At about 1:00 into the video, as we descend large swaths of oil in the water are visible. At about 1:15, we approach the vessel Discover Enterprise (the ship with the flare burning off of it), which is collecting oil from the small pipe BP inserted into the leaking riser last week. On either side of the Enterprise, there are two platforms visible. They are drilling the relief wells.

Controlled burning destroys more oil at Deepwater Horizon site than skimming
