WASHINGTON – A BP executive says a relief well is the “end point” of efforts to stop the Gulf oil spill — which suggests there’s little chance of plugging the leak until the new well is completed in August.

Although the dozens of tar balls found in the Keys are not from the the Deepwater Horizon spill, the Coast Guard says “a small portion” of the oil slick has entered the Gulf’s loop current and could reach the Florida Straits in seven or eight days.
