The mobile offshore drilling unit Q4000 holds position directly over the damaged Deepwater Horizon blowout preventer as crews work to plug the wellhead using a technique known as “top kill,” May 26, 2010. The procedure is intended to stem the flow of oil and gas and ultimately kill the well by injecting heavy drilling fluids through the blow out preventer on the seabed, down into the well. BP’s latest attempt to stop the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico has failed. Workers have been trying to pump cement – a method – known as Top Kill – into the breached well for 3 days. The next option will be an attempt to stem the flow using a containment valve. Engineers say the work will start within a week. Video Rating: 0 / 5
The primary objective of the top kill process is to put heavy kill mud into the well so that it reduces the pressure and then the flow from the well Gulf of Mexico response
May 26 (Bloomberg) — Bloomberg’s Eric Coleman reports on BP Plc’s efforts to stem the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Oil began flowing into the Gulf after an April 20 explosion aboard the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig, which London-based BP leased from Transocean Ltd. BP shares have dropped 25 percent since then. www.SpillFighters.com – The Texas Land Office and Texas Water Commission successfully used ‘oil eating’ microbes to clean up large oil spills in just weeks. Microbes hunt down and eat the toxic oil and leave only a biodegradable waste that is non-toxic to humans and marine life. Marshland and beaches were pristine again in just weeks—not years like the Exxon Valdez spill. This is the answer to save the seafood industry and all the precious creatures we are about to kill. Three days after BP said its latest attempt to stop oil gushing out into the Gulf of Mexico had failed, the company is turning to another risky procedure. BP plans to use robot submarines to cut away the riser pipe and place a containment valve over the blowout preventer. However, it’s likely to temporarily cause 20 per cent more oil (some 100000 gallons) to add to the spill daily.
BP tries to angle the camera to focus on the smaller leaks coming from the top of the riser kink. But even the new angle is now match for this phoenix of mud and oil. BP is struggling to try to position the camera angle to stay focuses on the small leaks but the massive fury of mud keeps overwhelming the camera screen. New video coming in my next update. From this live video, it does not appear that the TOP KILL method is stopping the flow. If anything, it has gotten worse. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure it out. I believe we are witnessing Epic Phail. And the Earth pays the price. Part 4 coming soon! Video Rating: 5 / 5
A video grab, taken from a BP live video feed, shows a robot during the “top kill” procedure trying to stop the flow of oil from the Gulf of Mexico oil well, Thursday.
