President Obama said Thursday he is halting or delaying new offshore drilling in the Arctic Ocean, off the Virginia coast, and in new deepwater wells in the Gulf of Mexico.

On May 12, 2010, Congressman Doyle castigated BP, Transocean, and Halliburton at a House Energy and Commerce Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee hearing for their failure to prevent or to halt the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico three weeks ago. He criticized the three for their unwillingness to take responsibility for the spill, and he called on these very profitable companies to dedicate more resources to developing and deploying safer technology and better approaches for addressing future such events.
