www.youtube.com and RT.com The cap on the blown-out well in the Gulf is capturing a half-million gallons (1.9 million litres) a day, or anywhere from one-third to three-quarters of the oil spewing from the bottom of the sea, officials said on Monday. But the hopeful report was offset by a warning that the far-flung slick has broken up into hundreds or even thousands of patches of oil that may inflict damage that could persist for years.

Diana DeGette’s opening statement at the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations hearing entitled “Inquiry into the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Coast Oil Spill” on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing examined what caused the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig and the oil spill now spreading across the Gulf, in order to help prevent future incidents and inform the direction of our national energy policy.
