The story of how the BP oil drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico, “Deepwater Horizon”, was destroyed on April 20, 2010, causing the worst oil spill in US history. First broadcast 5-16-10.
Video Rating: 5 / 5
This could be one of the worst oil spills ever, so far. At least 5000 barrels per day of oil is leaking from some 5000 feet below the ocean surface, covering over 2100 square miles.
@felony1175 Well your anger is misdirected. The “executives” do not plan or implement day to day operations on a deepwater drilling rig, any more than airline executives get involved in flight operations or air traffic control. Your presumption that the accident resulted from corporate greed is uniformed and not true. It was a series of seemingly minor errors in judgement by the guys on the rig and their supervisors in town resulting in a freak accident.
BP should be charged with negligent homocide! If according to the rightwing USSC corporation are entitiled to Constitutional rights they are also NOT above the law, if I through reckless negligence killed 11 people I would, and should be looking at many, many years in prison.
@rms3 Also, you don’t need to insult me. I wasn’t targeting the people who work on the rig. They are excellent people doing a dirty job. Sorry I’m mad they were killed due to greed. No need to insult me, and I will not insult you. Thanks!
@rms3 Wrong and wrong. The executives, CEO, COO and CFO are not the engineers on the rigs. They make the fiscal and managerial decisions in the office. So, if they say don’t spend the extra money or rush the drill for the sake of profit, bad results occur as seen here. The guys and Enron were all smart, yet very unethical. Perhaps if we were all like John Chambers, the workplace would be efficient and safe. Oh and Steve Jobs could have found a better way to stop the leak.
@dickjohnson474747 – Ah, so YOU DO know the details? Ok, since you’re the expert here, please tell us how much pressure is supposed to be applied to the annular in order to move the drill string safely through it, and how much pressure is applied during a test, like the one taking place when the blowout occurred? Also, it would be helpful to know how much pressure was applied to it at the time the idiot moved the drillstring up 15 feet – ripping chunks of rubber off the annular?
@davearies11 The annular ram is the ram that you close so that you can move the drill pipe while the well is shut in so that you don’t get stuck. When you are that deep you can’t let the pipe just sit there idle or you will get stuck like they did before. Maybe the ram was just worn out and brittle. Who knows? You can tell that this dude didn’t spend much time on the business end of the rig because he doesn’t know the details.
@rms3 thank you…some ppl get on here not knowing what they are talking about and think they do.
Doesn’t seem like very good engineering to me. You’d think they’d make the most sophisticated drill rig in the world “idiot proof”.How the hell could they not have a “safety lock-out” device that prevented movement of the drill shaft when the Annular was locked in place? Some idiot nudges a joystick and damages the Blow Out Preventer, thus allowing the entire rig to be destroyed?
@felony1175 You are foul mouth retard. You don’t know any of the professionals who engineer and supervise these $1 million/day operations employing technology more sophisticated and complex than a space mission and who have managed to drill 30,000 wells over the past 50 years before suffering a blowout of this magnitude. .
I wish the world was out of oil, then we would be forced to find other ways to get energy
The executives are all pieces of shit. They only care about money…they make billions of dollars, but they can’t even spend extra ensuring the safety of their workers. What pisses me off is that they want everything done faster. These assholes don’t realize that no one wants to pay for $3/gallon gas, so they might as well not do anything fast. “Oh but we lose money.” Ok right, you make billions in profits…pieces of fucking shit they are.
@lorijeans59 Amen!
Rev 8[9] And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed
Lev 11[9] These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
[10] And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
this may sound crazy but, what if God did this and there really was no oil well? And they knew people would get all hysterical if they did not make up a lie to cover the oil?notice to some pictures look red(and a third of ther waters were made like blood?->revelations.
@Wivanunu It has something to do with making a lot of money at the expense of everything else. Everything should not revolve around just making money at any cost. Not exactly, this is turning into a major catastrophe.
Why on earth is BP off our coast????????????????? What is wrong with our country? And why did this platform explode and sink? Has that ever happened before?
Bomb it. Might be the only way to stop the leak
good video.
Thanks for the information.
Thumbs up and a link on twitter 🙂
