HOUMA, La. – The U.S. Coast Guard would like to remind boaters this holiday weekend to maintain a safe speed on the waterways throughout the Louisiana coastline and obey all posted no-wake zones.
As responders to the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill continue to work through the Labor Day weekend, it is important for boaters on local waterways to be mindful of no-wake zones. By keeping speeds down and minimizing their wake, boaters can help the responders continue their clean-up operations.
The Coast Guard encourages boaters to enjoy their time on the water, but boat responsibly and be prepared. Please remember:
- Always wear your life jacket.
- Never boat under the influence.
- Take a boating safety course.
- Get a free vessel safety check.
