On the Surface, Gulf Oil Spill Is Vanishing Fast; Concerns Stay
New York Times The immense patches of surface oil that covered thousands of square miles of the gulf after the April 20 oil rig explosion are largely gone, … Gulf oil spill: Where has the oil gone? The lawyers and axe-grinders and professional worry-warts have a vested interest in making this go on forever. They can’t abuse BP or collect any reparations if there’s no oil. So they have to make this seem like Prince William Sound all over again. But the simple fact is that the biology of oil-rich subtropical waters like the Gulf is very different from that of oil-poor subarctic waters like the Sound. The price the public paid was weeks of unsubstantiated scare-mongering by the newsies.
But save a little venom for the likes of Bobby Jindal, who is keen to profit from the leak while at the same time demanding that deep water drilling continue unabated and largely unregulated. You reap what you sow, Gov. Leaks follow drilling as surely as day follows night.
