Spawning in the oil spill

Posted on June 14, 2010 by bp complaints

The Gulf of Mexico oil spill is the worst environmental disaster the US has faced. Toxic oil from the Deepwater Horizon well threatens the region’s sensitive shorelines and the nesting birds along the Louisiana coast. But there’s another species at serious risk: the Atlantic bluefin tuna. This special marine podcast takes the form of an urgent warning about the future of the species. The spawning habitat of the bluefin tuna overlaps with the oil-spill zone and the disaster comes right at the peak of spawning season. The larvae might not withstand the toxic effects of the spilled oil. The bluefin tuna is already living dangerously close to the edge thanks to overfishing and climate change. The Deepwater Horizon catastrophe could wipe out the region’s bluefin populations forever. You can help save the bluefin tuna by joining the campaign to create more Marine Protected Areas here: tinyurl.com

no, that was irony. if i could, i would shoot all the managers of BP and after that i would cut them into pieces and put them into a oil barrel.

  15. hippocrocostoat says:

very interesting! Whilst everyone is focussing on the direct impact of the oil slick, very little has been mentioned about the long term effects. if the oil slick in 1979 caused a permanent 70% reduction in the numbers of tuna larvae what are the effects of this catastrophe going to be? could we be dining on our last decade of tuna?

Fucking money hungry humans, this is why I wont buy a car, and why our house is completely eco-friendly

  17. ForeverPassionate says:

That is horrible! I wish they would stop off shore drillings, its so ridiculous. I’m going to sign some petitions on care2.
